Street Side Podcast LogoStarted by the Street Medicine Institute Student Coalition in 2023, Street Side is now run by a passionate team of volunteers.

Street Side explores the themes involved in providing street-level medical and mental health care to our unhoused neighbors, the "rough sleepers." We explore the care philosophy of street medicine, clinical topics, addiction medicine, mental health, trauma, and speak with folks who have lived experience of homelessness. This podcast will bring insight and inspiration to anyone who cares about the unsheltered.

Street Side episodes highlight: Guests with lived experience of homelessness

  • Lived Experience and Advocacy with Melissa Moore (June 15th, 2024): Melissa is one of our board members, and she shares her story of lived experience with homelessness and how she has transformed that experience into advocacy to help others.
  • The Lived Experience of Community Health Workers with Joseph Benson (May 31st, 2025): Joseph (or Cowboy) is also one of our board members, and he shares his decades of experience working in street medicine as well as Health Care for the Homeless' Consumer Advisory Board.
  • Thirty Years on the Street with Todd Lucero (January 19th, 2026): Authentic and inspirational, Todd Lucero details his lived experiences of trauma, homelessness, substance use, and incarceration. He speaks beautifully about the role of human kindness in his recovery and his own efforts to support others. Todd is an expert who speaks from the heart.
  • Beauty from Brokenness with Kshe Bernard (June 6th, 2026): Kshe is the embodiment of living wisdom born out of the suffering of lived experience. We honor her courage and vulnerability in sharing her very personal journey. From the chaos of the streets to full-time advocacy, her story is remarkable.
